There is nothing worse than having an invasion of cockroaches, spiders and ants in your home. However, if you do not want to use chemicals to control them you might wonder what your options are. There are a number of natural ways that you can keep these insects and arachnids outside of your home.

Controlling Cockroaches

If you are able to identify the entry point the cockroaches are using then you can stop them before they enter with cucumber. A slice of cucumber that the entry point will actually keep the insects from entering the room. The best place to look for an entry point will be high points in the room as cockroaches like high places.

If you want to exterminate the cockroaches instead of deterring them then you should look at spraying them with soapy water. This will kill them instantly. You can also sprinkle diatomaceous soil in the areas where you often see the insects. This soil is completely organic, but the small particles will cut through the exoskeleton of the cockroach and kill it within 2 days.

Controlling Spiders

There are a number of plants that can deter spiders from coming close to your property. Having some of these plants outside entry points like windows and doors will help lower the spider count in your home. The plants to look at are spiderslavender, lemon balm, lemon grass, mint and eucalyptus.

You can also use cinnamon to deter spiders from your home by sprinkling it around the exterior. Cinnamon is a great option because it will also help to deter other insects like ants. There are also a number of essential oils that can be diluted in water and sprayed to keep spiders away.

If you are looking to kill the spiders in your home then you can turn to diatomaceous soil. This is actually a good killing solution for any crawling pests because it covers them and will slowly work into their body. Of course, this will not offer you an instant solution as it will take a few days to kill the spider.

Controlling Ants

Like cockroaches slices of cucumber at entry points will stop ants from entering your home. This is due to the fragrance of the cucumber and ants have a natural aversion to this. If you want to get the best results you should look at using bitter cucumber.

Crushing mint leaves or using mint tea bags can also help control ants. You will need to place this along the entryways of the house to stop the ants from entering. You can also use cinnamon in the same way because the strong smell deters them.

For something a little different, you can also use chalk to stop ants entering your home. You can either use a stick of chalk or chalk power from a hardware store. This will stop the ants from entering the house, although the exact reasons why are still not completely clear.

Profession Pest Control

Of course as we all know the natural approach might work temporarily but for long-term effective results particularly in tropical environments where the pest are prolific and persistent, you are realistically going to need to bring in your local pest management professionals  – after all they do this for a living!
